Message From Our Founder

Built for Pittsburgh: A Higher Standard of Personal Training.

Essential Strength: The Product of 10+ Years. 10,000+ Hours. One Relentless Mission.

To the person looking for more than just a workout: My name is Samuel Pitcairn. I am the founder of Essential Strength, and I built this facility for one specific reason: I was tired of watching people not get the results they wanted in their healthcare and training.

My Promise to You

Everything we do is the culmination of everything I have learned, tested, and refined in world-class medical facilities and private labs.

I earned my Master’s Degree in Sports Science from the University of Pittsburgh and my Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Physiology from Ohio University. I am a USAW Certified Coach and have served as a Sports Scientist for University of Pittsburgh and led return-to-play programs at UPMC. I've studied under legends like Charles Poliquin and Ben Prentiss. I immersed myself in the clinical philosophies of the Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) and the Gray Institute.

When you walk through my doors - whether you are an elite Division I athlete, someone trying to get out of chronic pain, or just trying to lose that last 10 pounds - you are getting a holistic system that works.

If you are ready for a higher standard of training -welcome to Essential Strength.
